Rara Lake is Nepal's largest and deepest freshwater lake, a stunning turquoise jewel set within Rara National Park in the country's remote far west (Mugu & Jumla districts), known for its pristine beauty, diverse wildlife (red pandas, musk deer, 200+ bird species), and as a popular trekking destination offering tranquility, breathtaking mountain views, and unique experiences like boating in summer and frozen landscapes in winter, requiring permits to visit.

We're offering you a 2-night, 3-day holiday package to Rara Lake by plane. During the journey on Day 1, fly early from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj to Talcha. Drive/ride/hike 30-90 minutes to Milichaur for lake views, walk 1.5 hours to Rara Eco Resort, and enjoy a campfire dinner. On Day 2, we enjoy a local breakfast and a boat on Rara Lake for panoramic vistas of mountains (Kanjiroba, Saipal), temples, rivers, and districts like Dolpa and Humla. Hike to Murma Top, return for a starry-night campfire dinner. On day 3 we have breakfast, pack, and walk back to Milichaur (jeep/horse/walk to Talcha). Fly to Nepalgunj, then Kathmandu (9 AM-2 PM), with flexible meals based on flight timing.

Detailed Itinerary

Kathmandu to Nepalgunj to Talcha

We take the early morning flight from Kathmandu in order to catch up with the flight around 7:00-8:30 am approx. From Nepalgunj we take a flight around 9 am-12 pm, depending upon the weather. In case the flight gets delayed, we will have our lunch in Talcha Airport after landing; if not, in Nepalgunj. From the airport to Milichaur, it's a 30-minute drive by Jeep and approx. 1 hr by horse. Milichaur provides the best lake view of Rara, and deep pine forests, open grassy land, and wild flowers are the beauty to be captured. We walk across the RARA lake for approx. 1 hr. 30 min. on the plain roads, finally reaching the RARA Eco Resort. By evening the traditional local-style dinner gets ready by the campfire. The guest has to take a rest for early day 2 plans.

Explore Rara and Murma Village & Murmatop Hiking

Good morning! After enjoying a local-style breakfast around 7-8 am, we embark on our trip for a boating adventure. By 12 pm, a magnificent panoramic view of Rara Lake unfolds, along with Kanjiroba Himal, Sisne Himal, Koiki Himal, Chankheli Himal, Chhayannath Temple, Tibet, Karnali River, Humla, Jamla, Kalikot, Dolpa, and parts of the far-western region. The panoramic mountain ranges also offer glimpses of the Saipal range and the Khaptad, Badimalika, Bajura, Achham, Bajhang, and Darchula districts. Tourists often express that their tour (trek) to Rara would be incomplete without hiking to Murma Top. Finally we return back. The dinner is served best here in our hotel around the campfire on starry nights.

Rara to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu

Good morning! Early morning breakfast, and after all the packing, we have our farewell from the hotel and walk across the RARA lake to Milichaur. From Milichaur, one can choose to go on the horse ride or take our jeep service to reach Talcha airport, the same as on day 1. And those who prefer to walk to the airport are recommended to rise and have breakfast early. From Talcha Airport the flight time is expected to be around 9 am to 2 pm. Then we fly from Talcha Airport to Nepalgunj, and lunch depends upon the timing, so lunch might be before the flight at Talcha or in Nepalgunj after landing. Then, we head towards Kathmandu, and the trip finally comes to a farewell. Thank you. *Note However, it is a topic of concern that due to geographical complexities, extreme weather changes, and challenges of climate (seasonal changes), the flight might be delayed or shifted to the possible day of flight, so please bear with it, and you must make up your mind to stay around the airport hotel until the next flight.
